Woman maimed after plastic surgery

This is not a very encouraging news but this is worth a space in this blog since it warns us that even the most skilled surgeon can make huge mistakes.

Reports say that a woman was left horribly disfigured after she underwent three plastic surgery procedures all at the same time. This incident was reported to the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal in New Zealand. The woman was said to have lost her nipple and a belly button after she went through breast reduction, abdominoplasty, and liposuction in a single operation.

The woman, who was considered morbidly obese, had breast reduction, abdominoplasty and liposuction in a single operation, The Sunday Star Times reported on Sunday.

Two weeks after the surgery she was back under the knife to have her belly button and nipple removed.

A plastic surgeon expert witness told the tribunal last week the woman was left with a grossly disfigured right breast, unsightly scarring, gross distortion of the pubic area and unimpressive results from the liposuction.

The procedure was done not by untrained hands but by a well-known surgeon who has done many surgeries in the past. One huge mistake the surgeon committed, according to the plastic surgeon expert witness, was that the operations took less than four hours, suggesting that inappropriate haste with scant attention to details brought out this tragic incident.
