And, observably not among the vainest of the lot -- Is it all about the desire to rid themselves of love handles and beer bellies acquired through overstaying in the pub, that the Irish emerged to have been eagerly searching the Internet information on cosmetic surgery?

The cosmetic surgery website, www.lipo.com published on October 30 a new study that posted the top five nations searching for information on cosmetic surgery: Ireland, United Kingdom, Australia, Philippines, New Zealand – in that order.

Contrary to popular view, it appears that Americans are not quite the ones obsessed with looks, or at least being overly fascinated about it. United States positioned at 7th, which is an indication that Americans, aside from the Internet, are closely following TV shows like “Nip/Tuck” and acquire their plastic surgery information through such sources.

The study to be rational cited the number of people searching on Google for information on cosmetic surgery. It then normalized the number of queries to adjust for the population size or the number of people in each country searching for general information using Google.

Miami and Las Vegas, somewhat predictably, are the US cities that appeared to have the most interest in cosmetic surgery, followed by San Diego, Charlotte in North Carolina and Orlando, respectively. Surprisingly missing in the top 10 is Los Angeles, considered as center of cosmetic surgery. Then again, one can only presume that most Los Angeles residents have already had cosmetic surgery, or are cosmetic surgeons themselves.

Moreover, each search terms revealed these interesting results: New York pays attention to "nose job". Oklahoma City tops the "tummy tuck" search. "Facelift" is most inquired by Tampa, Florida residents while Norfolk people in Virginia are intrigued about "liposuction". Las Vegas has the hoot for "breast implants."
