Tips to keep wrinkles at bay

There’s more to keeping skin young, smooth and flawless than just using Botox and injectable fillers to remove wrinkles. Though the latter effectively staves off remnants of aging on the face, it is quite a lot better if we deal with wrinkles right before they even appear. No matter how we look at it, the principle that says, an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure, is so much at work in this situation.

So to help us understand the concept better, Scotsman.com asked the guidance of an anti-ageing expert Tina Richards on the things women should do in order to age gracefully. Here are her recommendations:

1. Block out the rays

Sun exposure is one major cause of premature wrinkles. Thus, Richards advise women to wear sunscreens with at least an SPF 15, everyday. Sunblock formulations, which contain micronised titanium dioxide or zinc oxide are the best options.

2. Eat well

Food plays an important role in preventing premature wrinkles. Eat a low-GI diet that is rich in antioxidants and essential unsaturated oils. Avoid inflammatory processed foods, saturated animal fat and refined sugar. Eat organic, unpolluted fish two or three times a week. It's rich in anti-ageing nutrients including face-firming DMAE - the natural muscle toning chemical."

3. Take a supplement

Richards recommends taking an all-in-one daily antioxidant complex. This way, free radicals and other cell-damaging elements will be dealt with accordingly.

4. Exercise

Exercise is still the best way to prevent aging from showing on your face and body. Richards also recommends tightening and toning facial muscles with a sine wave microcurrent facial. Toning the facial muscles stimulates collagen production and has an anti-inflammatory action.

5. Treat yourself

"Over time non-invasive 'lunch-time' peels, microdermabrasion and retinoid treatments can significantly boost collagen levels, strengthening and smoothing the skin. They work by lifting skin surface layers and stimulating collagen production in the dermis."

The steps provided by Tina Richards are so easy to follow. It just takes discipline and determination to really abide by those rules and then enjoy the benefits later.
