Plastic surgery book for children

A picture book aimed at helping children deal with their parents’ plastic surgery operation is about to be released this April 28. The book is entitled My Beautiful Mommy and was written by Dr. Michael Salzhauer, a plastic surgeon based in Florida.

Dr. Salzhauer has written the book in order to help parents explain to their children what happens before the operation and what happens after it. Through the book, parents can easily handle making their children understand the changes that transpire after their cosmetic surgery operations.

The author said: "More than half the women who come in for procedures bring their children with them and most parents go into denial about the surgery with regard to their children."

In 2007, there were more than 400,000 American women with children under 10 who had cosmetic surgery. And this is aimed at helping these moms and kids in dealing with the makeovers.

In addition, Dr. Salzhauer saw lots of moms bringing their children in for their appointments. He said that the kids must be scared knowing that mom is undergoing an “operation.” He added that he created the book because he wanted to help explain what was going on and why their moms are doing it.

My Beautiful Mommy is aimed at kids ages 4 to 7 and features a plastic surgeon named Dr. Michael (a musclebound superhero type) and a girl whose mother gets a tummy tuck, a nose job and breast implants. Before her surgery, the mommy explains that she is getting a smaller tummy: ‘You see, as I got older, my body stretched and I couldn’t fit into my clothes anymore. Dr. Michael is going to help fix that and make me feel better.’ Mom comes home looking like a slightly bruised Barbie doll with demure bandages on her nose and around her waist.”

The plastic surgery picture book doesn’t explain exactly why the mother is redoing her nose. Mom only reassures her daughter that the new nose will just look ‘different, my dear—prettier!’
