PermaLip – lip implant surgery in a jiffy
The first permanent lip implant was performed successfully in Britain. This lip augmentation procedure is different from the lip enhancement that uses collagen fillers. This is procedure involves incisions where an implant similar to the material used in breast implants is inserted into the lips. The procedure takes a very little time though as it can be finished within fifteen minutes only.
Cosmetic Surgery Answers delivers more details on this.
The new implants, called PermaLip, cost between £2,000 and £2,500, and are marketed at patients who either want to boost the size of their lips, or whose lips have narrowed with age.
“The PermaLip implants are soft and malleable,” says Patrick Mallucci, a plastic surgeon with London Plastic Surgery Associates ”so the look and feel is entirely natural and wouldn’t hinder any activity such as kissing or eating.”
Surgeons say that inserting the implants is a simple operation that can be carried out under local anaesthetic. The surgeon makes two small incisions in the corners of the mouth, and the implant is passed through a tunnel in the lip.
The lip implant is intended to go permanent so unlike collagen injections, you don’t have to go back to your plastic surgeon for another injection once the effects fade. It still has to be observed though if this type of surgery would not emulate the bad experiences breast implants have gone through the years. The emergence of ruptures and leaks still remain to be seen.
