Male cosmetic surgery – on the rise
We all know how men’s perception of beauty has grown through the years. Before, six-pack abs are the rarity, but today, more and more men are going to fitness gyms in order to enhance their physique. The term ‘metrosexual’ has also been created to refer to heterosexual men who just love pampering themselves with cosmetic treatments and who love expensive and fashionable clothes and gadgets.
The most popular plastic surgery procedures among men today are the ones that belong to the body-contouring category. Liposuction and tummy tuck have always been the surgery choice for men as they target one of the most problematic areas of a man’s body – the stomach and love handles.
Experts have noted that this increase interest of men in such procedures is also caused by the modern technological innovations and technique associated with those procedures.
In the past, liposuction has always been done with a suction device to remove fat from the body. But now, things have changed dramatically and the process of removing fat cells from the body has become much easier and convenient for both plastic surgeons and patients.
The newest technique employed in body contouring is called BodyJet. It is a water-jet assisted liposuction, which basically makes the liposuction process a lot safer and faster.
The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons reported a 61% increase in male tummy tucks and almost 20% increase in male liposuction in 2007. Experts attributed the increase to the new techniques and technologies employed in body-contouring procedures. The fact that new techniques nowadays allow less down-time or no down-time at all, helps a lot in helping men make informed decision concerning plastic surgery.
