"Liz Cruz"
Episode starts with Liz Cruz, McNamara/Troy's resident anesthesiologist, sitting in Christian and Sean's office getting a plastic surgery consultation. Christian and Sean, knowing that Liz was always a critic of those who opted for plastic surgery, ask her why she's having a change of heart. Liz says that after she had her kidney stolen and almost died, she basically wants to live life to the fullest and that includes looking good while doing it. She also mentions that she thinks her new girlfriend, Poppy (Alanis Morissette) will like the improvements, too. The boys are surprised because they didn't know Liz had a girlfriend, and also advice her not to go through with the surgery because of the health risks involved after the trauma she'd recently been through. She threatens to leave McNamara/Troy and go to a rival practice if they won't perform the surgery on her.
Cut to James (Jacqueline Bissett) at a gas station, frustrated that no one will help service her car. She gets out of the car only to be met by two angry asian men speaking to her in French. They spill gas all over her, light a cigarette and tell her that she has 24 hours to produce another kidney or she is going to die. James is visibly shaken after the men drive away. Her cell phone rings. Thinking it's the man who wants her dead, she answers in a panic, but it is Christian. He wants James to send him someone to get his mind off Michelle - the highest of high class women. James says she'll send someone over in an hour and a half.
Sean and Julia are with Conor fixing his bandages. Marlow comes in the room, and there is definite unspoken tension. Sean tells Marlow that he should take the night off - Sean was home early and wanted to spend some time with Conor. Sean tells Julia she should take some time for herself, also. Marlow mentions that he is going to see a movie, and it happens to be one of Julia's favorites so Sean suggests they go together. While Sean and Julia are waiting in line to buy tickets, Julia looks uncomfortable - Marlow assumes it is because of their height difference and tells her that eventually you get used to the staring. She tells him it has nothing to do with that, but more that it's weird being out together after their kiss. Sitting in the movie, Marlow and Julia are not focusing on the movie - they are focusing on each other - and start kissing again. Julia leaves the theatre, Marlow follows her. Outside, the pair admit having feelings for each other, but Julia says that everything is very confusing in her life and doesn't know what she's feeling. Marlow drives her home.
Christian is at home on his couch when the woman he believes he is waiting for knocks on the door an hour and a half later than he was expecting her. However, when he opens the door it is not who he was expecting - it's James. She lets herself in, and they engage in a conversation filled with metaphors comparing James' knowledge and expertise as an escort to fine aged scotch. Christian grabs James but soon collapses on the couch saying he doesn't feel right. James drugged him, and she calls Michelle over to his apartment saying it's an emergency. The next thing we see is Michelle examining Christian, and she is telling James that she cannot take Christian's kidney because he'll know it was her. James, however, had no intention of keeping Christian alive. James tells Michelle that she has less than 24 hours to find her another kidney, or Christian will be the next designated donor.
Liz and Poppy are sitting together in the kitchen drinking tea and Sean is ambling about. Poppy is talking about how she is training Liz to run a 5K - Sean seems confused because the running mixed with the plastic surgery isn't the Liz he knows at all. Christian comes in looking very haggard and disheveled demanding that he speak with Sean in the other room. Christian tells Sean that he had a Madame over and he believes she drugged him. Sean runs the test, and finds that Christian had been drugged with Triazalan. Christian says that he doesn't want to report it to the police - he wants to take care of it himself quietly and then let it all go.
Marlow is in Sean's office, but as a patient not as Conor's nanny. He wants a consult on a leg lengthening procedure. Sean doesn't understand why Marlow would want to put himself through such a painful procedure, and Marlow explains that he is involved with a woman who is having difficulty dealing with their difference in height. Sean explains the procedure in depth, but tells Marlow he won't gain anymore than three to six inches. Marlow imagines himself and Julia back at the movie theatre ordering tickets, only he is six inches taller. He tells Sean he wants to go through with the procedure.
Cut to Liz's surgery. Poppy is the anesthesiologist. Poppy's true colors start to come out, and she is overly critical and harsh about Liz's body and the upgrades she wants done. Poppy tells Sean and Christian to take fat out of Liz's arms, but they refuse saying Liz didn't want that.
Cut to James in a parking garage walking to her car. When she opens her door, gallons and gallons of bio-hazardous human waste that had been collecting at the practice. James offers him another girl in return - as a peace offering.
Cut to Sean back with Liz in post-op. Liz wants to know where Poppy is, but she can sense from Sean's reaction that he is not too keen on Poppy. Sean tells Liz that he is just overprotective, and that Poppy just seemed a little critical and bossy during surgery. Liz wants to know what Poppy said, but at the same time defends the fact that she knows Poppy loves her. Sean says that he is very happy for Liz, and that if Poppy is the girl for her than Poppy is family.
Michelle is in the waiting area, sees a woman sitting, and recognizes her immediately. Michelle goes into Christian's office wanting to know about the woman. Christian tells her that James sent her over to make up for the loss of not being able to have Michelle. The two get into a huge argument - about Michelle staying with her husband, about how he cannot have her, about how he cannot go out with this woman and cannot be indebted to James. Nothing is resolved. Christian storms out of the office with the girl in tow despite Michelle's pleas that he doesn't.
Julia is in the nursery putting Conor down to bed when Sean comes in. Sean mentions that he doesn't really like the mural above Conor's crib, but Julia says that Marlow thinks it's good for his development. Sean tells Julia he thinks Marlow is totally hypocritical and doesn't trust anything he says since he came to his office today about the leg lengthening surgery. Julia looks confused and horrified - doesn't understand why Marlow would want the surgery. Julia leaves the house when Sean starts tightening the screws in Conor's thumb - she says she cannot handle watching him go through that. Cut to Marlow's apartment - he is painting and listening to music. There is a knock on the door and Julia comes in. She tells him that she doesn't want him to go through with the surgery, but he says he's not doing it for her - he's doing it for them. She tells him there is no "us" because she is married. Marlow explains that he never thought about having the surgery before but aside from the height difference and the fact that Julia is currently married, they are a perfect fit and wouldn't want his height to be the thing that stood in the way of them being together. Julia says that no matter what happens between her and Sean, there is not one thing she would change about Marlow. The next thing we see is them in bed after having had sex.
Michelle is at home staring at a clock. Her husband, Burt Landau's, nurse comes in and tells her that he isn't responding well to his medications. Despite the nurse's offer to stay longer and help, Michelle sends her home for the night. She goes upstairs to see him without any of the meds. He acknowledges that he is sick and that she is a beautiful young woman - knows that time is almost up but says it's been a sweet ride so far. She argues, says it hasn't been a sweet ride since he forced her to have sex with another man in front of him. They start arguing, and Burt says he needs his medications but Michelle won't bring them to him. So he proceeds to get out of bed to try and get them himself. Halfway down the stairs he looks up at Michelle and dies. Michelle immediately rushes to him to extract his kidney.
Meanwhile, during Burt's death scene we are cutting back and forth between Burt's death and argument with Michelle and Christian having sex with the beautiful young woman he left the practice with earlier that day. He tells her to hold on while he uses the bathroom. While he is in the bathroom, the girl pulls a razor blade out of her purse - but right before he returns, she gets a text message from James telling her to "abort." We now understand that this woman was a ploy to get Christian's kidney, but since Michelle was able to get her dead husband's kidney, Christian was off the hook.
Julia comes home and lies to Sean about where she was. He is skeptical. She says that she doesn't want to lie to him and that she was at Marlow's place. When he asks why, she says because Marlow is her friend and she needed to talk some things out. As she leaves the room, Sean has a look on his face as if he understands now that the woman Marlow was talking about wanting to have the procedure for is in fact Julia.
