Johanna Botta pressured to get plastic surgery?

Johanna Botta was to participate as Miss Peru USA at the Miss Peru Universe 2008 Pageant. However, due to a constant pressure from the organization to get plastic surgery,
Johanna left and did not join the event.

The pageant was held on May 1, 2008 and declared Karol Castillo as the winner.

The 2008 Miss Peru Pageant was allegedly sponsored by a plastic surgeon. With this, constant pressure was applied to the contestants to get plastic surgery. Johanna was urged to go under the knife to enhance her breasts and nose. She said that she has nothing against plastic surgery but she was dismayed by the fact that people are telling her to do it.

Johanna was quoted as saying, “I wish so many young girls were not pressured into doing stupid things just for the idea of perhaps winning.”

It is already a given fact that most of the contestants of beauty pageants, and even beauty queens themselves have work done on their face and body. Some may admit to it; some may not. But that is already a general truth that most people know of. However, the fact that people are being forced to get plastic surgery is ghastly and revolting, even for beauty pageant candidates.

It has been a golden rule in plastic surgery that patients should make the decision to get plastic surgery by themselves, knowing fully well the risks and complications that they might experience in the process. Forcing people to enhance their face or body (for cosmetic reasons) is always a no-no in plastic surgery, whatever the circumstances maybe.
