Cate Blanchett is against teen plastic surgery
Plastic surgery has reached new heights. It has reached a level of popularity where it is not taboo anymore to talk about getting a liposuction or a facelift surgery because everybody is doing it already. It has somehow achieved its goal, to make cosmetic plastic surgery available to people from all walks of life. But then again, there are drawbacks to this development. And Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett isn't scared to point that one aspect out.
It looks like teens are also curious about going under the knife and Blanchett doesn't like the idea at all. According to her, parents should not allow their young children to get plastic surgery. This, despite the pressure these children, especially girls, may feel to change their bodies according to media standards.
Blanchett says, “It’s a big difference women in their 60s or 70s finally deciding to get their eyes done. Who knows what you’re going to think? But when you’ve got an 18-year-old daughter who says ‘Mummy can I get a boob job?’ and you go ‘Sure honey’.”
“I mean their bodies haven’t even finished evolving. The fact that you’ve got a magazine, you know all these magazines for teenage girls about consuming and they’re so fragile. I’ve got sons. I don’t know what I’d do if I had a daughter.”
Blanchett blames the media for the increase in popularity of cosmetic surgery. Teenage girls feel the pressure to do preventive injections in order to look like their favorite models or actors. More and more young women are drawn to go under the knife just because their favorite stars have done so.
Moreover, Blanchett also believes that plastic surgery should be avoided by everyone, not just teens. She believes that aging gracefully is a part of life and represents the experiences a women lives through.
She says, “I see someone’s face, someone’s body who’d had children and I think they’re the song lines of your experience, and why would you want to eradicate that?“
Cate Blanchett is a natural beauty and is proud of that. But then again, she is also blessed with incredible genes that make her look fantastic even when she is aging. Lucky for her. But how about those who aren't?
